Welcome to MIRA

The Mining Insurance & Risk Association has been established by mining companies, risk managers, underwriters, claims adjusters, brokers and other service providers involved in risk management and insurance related activities in the mining industry.

The Mining Insurance & Risk Association is non-commercial undertaking organised by a committee drawn from professionals with extensive experience of mining risks and claims and is a cooperative forum enabling the ongoing improvements in the underwriting, risk management and claims processes, along with the exchange of views, experiences and dissemination of knowledge.

MIRA AGM 2024

The MIRA 2024 AGM was held on Tuesday 9th April as an on-line event and was attended by more than 50 members.  The Chairman’s report was provided by James Fryer which included feedback from the MIRA conference held in Vancouver last November, a reboot of the MIRA Wordings Group, notices of networking events and an offer to support similar regional networking events, as well as a look forward to further MIRA sponsored events and presentations, the mining company forum meetings, and preliminary thoughts for the next global conference.  An update on the Technical Group was provided by Paolo De Rosa. 

The number of board members has been increased to 15.  Four new members were elected to the board. We are pleased to welcome: Ian Clendenning, Lloyd Warwick International, Malerie Kostiuk, Capstone Copper. Christy Pearce, Newmont Corporation and Susan Zabolotniuk, Teck Resources.

The AGM was followed by a presentation by Ryan Singh from HATS Consulting on the subject of the current state of risk assessment in tailings and observations on risk-informed decision making.

Looking forward, the board will be undertaking preliminary work on the next conference to be held in 2025. Keep an eye on your mailbox for a Member survey.  Work will be ongoing with the Wording and Technical groups, more mining company forums will be planned, the website will be refreshed with more relevant content, and we will endeavour to arrange more online presentations and in person networking events.
